Maryann Hamm

Maryann Hamm, 63, has been married for 42 years and spent 22 years as an Air Force wife.

She spent most of her time making a home for a son and daughter in Georgia, Ohio, and several different bases from the Mohave desert to Mountains of northern California.

She says she considers herself fortunate to call the USA her hometown.

Her family has retired to a small farm and Dairy community in the central Valley of California.

She is now the proud Grandmother of three grandsons, one who is just beginning his career in the Air Force.

Writing has always been her passion. "Poetry has only recently captured me. I find it an exciting new way to express what I observe or feel," she says.

"My formal education ends with high school but continues with life experiences. I love cooking in the Italian way of my ancestors. I recently began quilting, in the way of my husband's ancestors...copying patterns from the 1700 and 1800's, bringing to life the quilts I have seen or heard the early settlers had used. It not only keeps tradition and history alive for us, but a cup of chicken soup and a quilt are comforting items on cool evenings.

"Being a housewife has given me a freedom no other job could. I have always found it hard to commit to anything (except writing) that would infringe upon it."
