Jorah Long

Thanks for reading my stuff!

I am a 36-year-old woman from San Antonio, TX. I've been very happily married for over 17 years. What can I say? I met my soulmate when I was but a baby. Our children include a delightful dachshund, and numerous cichlids and koi. I am interested in just about everything-literature, music, art, computers, movies, animals, gardening, nature, camping, travel, spirituality, archaeology, history, psychology, and particularly my new purple electric guitar. I am grateful for every precious moment I have with my family and friends, and I'm especially grateful to God for being the bearer of all the goodness and love in my life.

I appreciate any kind of artistic endeavor that evokes emotion and takes the risk of revealing the self, and I think that a visceral reaction is the most important element in art. I've been writing as long as I can remember; however, I realize my work is still young and rough and is something I always strive to improve upon. It's all a journey, and not always an easy one, but it's one that I feel very happy and blessed to follow.

*This page has been left just as Jorah designed it when we first began the creation of Hawkwind Literary Journal.

Jorah died on May 7, 2003, at her home in San Antonio after a difficult and courageous battle with adrenal carcinoma, a very rare form of cancer. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, her mother, her father and step-mother, and her loving cousin B.J. when she passed away.

Jorah was one of the most giving and caring people who ever lived. She loved working with writers on Hawkwind and delighted in putting her artistic touches to their works and designing special layouts for each writer she worked with. She always went the extra mile to make our publication the best it could be.

Jorah's wonderful touch and her valuable insights into the making of Hawkwind will be missed in so many ways.

She was our Co-Publisher/Editor and our closest friend. But most of all she was the most precious daughter any father could have. Her loss has left a void in all our souls...and she will be deeply missed forever.

Some may wish to view our photographic memories of her life...

Her loving dad,

Mike

Jorah Long

July 14, 1966 to May 7, 2003*

Jorah is Co-Publisher/Editor of HAWKWIND and makes valuable contributions to the editing chores and page layout responsibilities that go into publishing our quality magazine.

Jorah conceived and created our special Words of the Wind layout, featuring many Hawkwind writers and their thoughts on the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

She has also created many beautiful layouts for our journal, including those featuring the writing of Hawkwind featured poet Allen Itz; short stories and poetry by Joe Ducato; poetry of Pamela J. Ferguson; and the many poems of Terry Lowenstein.

Jorah's "brush strokes" are found throughout our journal and give it the warm feel that surrounds the works of our many fine writers.
