This poem is based on a true story, about a man who buried his wife in his front yard in a county next to my own. The reason he did this was love.

Love Never Ceases

By Michael David West

True love and death

prevail unaltered.

Eternally they go

in spirit’s breath.

My love of sixty years

was called home by our Lord.

He knew of her righteousness

as I always have.

She now reposes

in my front yard.

I could not bear

being without her.

In the light of morn

we visit each other.

I sit by her stone

and she speaks to my heart.

She declares to me

she’ll wait for my approach.

You have only a short time

to tarry she says.

To be with her once more

is my only dream now.

Being with her in death or life

for me is paradise.
